Denver arrival

Hey look at me! I'm in Denver! It's my first day ever here today.

When I got off the plane this morning a little after 9AM Mountain Standard Time, the snow had already dusted my surroundings so that the landscape was quite white. We were surrounded by a lot of total white cloud cover and in the distance, some significant fog.

So that's what's happening now. The snow NEVER stopped falling all day! There is amazing buildup outside. And how grateful I am to have this excellent, warm, dry Airbnb to come home o while I am here. The snow has seriously accumulated to around a foot, maybe more. I haven't looked outside in a few hours. It's so deep out there it's possible some cars are buried enough to be completely covered! It's DEEP. And I walked around in it today!

I took a walk to Safeway after lunch and a heavy nap in the afternoon. Safeway is apparently .5 miles away from where I am staying though the walk felt longer - maybe because of the deep snow or maybe because I am totally unfamiliar with this area. I bought groceries for the meals I'll be making while I stay here. I feel really proud that I am at this point in which I can travel effectively and take care of myself the right amount, all at the same time. Only I fully grasp how important and satisfying this achievement is, and how much learning in multiples areas of my life it took to reach this point.

I bought myself this treat
which I am currently snacking on with a teeny spoon as I write this.

Yes, I know it has been a long time since I wrote a blog post here. The reason is about 95% because my free Xfinity internet account seems to no longer be acceptable. It brought me months and maybe years or free internet for unknown reasons, so I am still grateful to its mysterious existence past its death date. What this ending meant was that I had not internet access at home - for the most part. Although actually for some strange reason I am still able to get a decent, unstable internet connecting through that Xfinity account over my simple cell phone. I hook my phone up to my computer speakers and watch online videos fairly often; I read important emails and respond to them; I do Duolingo exercises because I don't want to lose my streak. But it's very unpleasant to due extensive typing on a my cell phone. Very unpleasant. On the rare occasions I went out somewhere with my laptop to get a WiFi signal, I was usually limited on time and focus, and had other priorities besides writing in this blog.

Here I am now! In this cozy home, with no internet connection and lots of space and time to do this kind of thing. And new stories to write about.

On the way back from Safeway earlier I managed to find my way to my "home" by memory! I had lost the address and wasn't able to find an internet connection on my phone for a while. Kris, my host, wasn't responding to my texts at the time, so I just started going through the immense snow. Barely any plowing and maybe no salting had been done at the time. Cars were sparse and driving very carefully over packed snow. On many streets, it was hard to tell where the sidewalk was or if there even was a sidewalk. Miraculously, I found my way back to the building! It is a modern looking, three-story building which stands out in it's locale which is primarily humble, little, one floor homes. The closest intersection, of which I managed to vaguely recall the street names from earlier in the, seems synchronous. Williams and Wesley - my dad and my cat, meeting again. 😊

So why am I here in Denver? I'm visiting a graduate school as a prospective student. They invited me to have an interview and to attend a full day program for interested applicants, including a mock class. I applied to the School Psychology EdS program.

Maybe that's enough writing for now. I have just turned the thermostat up to 75℉ and it is gradually climbing to that temperature. My feet are chilly, though otherwise I'm comfortable. I'm into this dry, sunny, cold climate.

Tomorrow morning I have a solo interview on campus at 9AM. After that, I have an open day with no plans!

I woke up this morning at 3AM after going to bed around 11:30PM... and I don't think I slept much. So here's to a rapturous night of sleep ahead of me. I pray for it.
